ABOUT THE SHOW

Amal Walks Across America is a global event telling a powerful story in a unique way, and we are inviting YOU to join us!

Little Amal is a 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl, spreading her story of
hope as she discovers the beating heart of America, its blended culture and diverse people

Little Amal, the internationally-celebrated 12-foot-tall puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl, will be arriving in San Diego on November 3-5 as part of her final stop during her epic 6,000-mile journey across the United States this fall. Throughout the two-month trek, which will span more than 35 U.S. cities and towns for 100+ events, some of the country’s most influential cultural institutions and artists will come together to greet Amal and add their unique color to the rich tapestry of America’s story.

During her stop in San Diego, Blindspot Collective is honored to join other arts organizations such as La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego Symphony, and Casa Familiar to create a series of "events of welcome" for Amal. Blindspot is honored to have the chance to perform with Amal on her last day in the United States.

The event will be held in Mission Beach at 11am on Sunday, November 5th. Audiences will be greeted by food trucks and an invitation to sit with us for a family style picnic, before being joined by Little Amal herself as we explore the hope that she has shared across the world and continues to share.

FREquently asked questions

Is this a play?

Our performance with Amal Walks Across America, Washed Ashore, is narrative driven, therefore audiences will get to experience a story. Blindspot Collective believes that theatre and "a play" can take many forms. We are excited to give audiences something they may never have seen before.

In what ways is the event interactive?

Audiences will be invited to join us on the experience by joining a picnic and following Little Amal down to the beach.

What should I bring?

Although it's November, you never know what heat San Diego will bring to the beach. Be sure to bring sunscreen. We also encourage audiences to bring cash for the food trucks on site, blankets, chairs and hand sanitizer.

What should I wear?

Audience members should wear their favorite beach attire. Be advised that the audience will be moving in grass and into the sand, so wear shoes that are comfortable for both.

Are there other Little Amal events happening?

Amal Walks Across America is collaborating for three days with many San Diego based arts organizations. Please visit this link to view the full list of events and organizations.

Is this event appropriate for children?

Children are both welcome and encouraged to attend! If your child or school group is planning on attending, please be aware there should be a parent or guardian present. If you have any questions for us, please reach out.

How long is the event?

The show itself will run from 11am - 12pm, however audiences are encouraged to show up early or stay as late as 1pm to grab food, and enjoy the day at the beach.
