ABOUT THE SHOW

WELCOME BACK to a neon-soaked sanctuary where the mic is hot, the beer is cold, and one unforgettable night turns a dive bar into a confession booth, a concert stage, and a second chance. This is KARAOKE DREAMS reimagined. With new songs and new faces, this immersive, heartfelt musical invites audiences into a world that’s both familiar and electrifyingly new.
Every regular, newcomer, and wannabe rockstar has a secret, a song, and something to prove. As the drinks get stronger and the bass gets louder, past and present collide, revealing the heartbreaks, hookups, and hopes hiding behind the music. Featuring an electrifying mix of hits by Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Queen, Taylor Swift, Adele, Gloria Estefan, Tracy Chapman, Chappell Roan, and more, Karaoke Dreams is a joyful celebration of connection, community, and the catharsis of singing your truth. In this neon-soaked world where strangers become confidants and the familiar becomes unforgettable, one night can hold a lifetime of courage. Karaoke Dreams reminds us that sometimes, the right song can change everything.
Nominated for Best New Musical by the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle (2025 Awards), this new incarnation builds on what audiences loved the first time while delivering a new night of music, surprise, and connection.
This production is presented in collaboration with Blindspot Collective, an award-winning theater company based in San Diego whose productions have won or been nominated for Best New Play, Best New Musical, and Best Solo Performance by the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle. It is created and directed by Blake McCarty, whose work is "broadening the definition of theater" (The New York Times), with musical direction by Lyndon Pugeda and choreography by Micah Parra.
This reimagined production of Karaoke Dreams is presented in partnership with the La Jolla Playhouse's Without Walls (WOW) Festival.
